Texmod

Texmod is a program which lets you temporarily replace game textures.

There is a great deal of information on Texmod out there through a quick Google search so I will not write much on the subject.

As it relates to Mass Effect 3, it requires a special workaround to function with Origin.

I have included a batch file (which automates the manual process detailed below) and short instructions in the Texmod resource folder of my default femshep mod.
You can download it here.

Manual Instructions:

1. Copy your Texmod.exe into the folder where your MassEffect3.exe is located (Program
    Files/OriginGames/MassEffect3/Binaries/Win32)
2. Rename your Texmod.exe into MassEffect3.exe and the MassEffect3.exe into MassEffect3bak.exe
3. Through Origin, click the game icon to launch
4. Instead of Mass Effect 3, the Texmod program should load
5. Go back into your game folder and change the exe files back to their original names (Texmod.exe and
    MassEffect3.exe)
6. Go back to Texmod, load the desired tpf, and browse for 'target application' MassEffect3.exe
7. Click 'Run' in Texmod to launch the game

Sundance31us on the BSN has uploaded a nice detailed PDF instructional with pictures. Download is at the bottom of their files page. Check out their desk frame mod while you're there! http://social.bioware.com/project/8081/

    1. I'm not sure what you mean.

Conversation dialogue? Or your game just won't load? Texmod alone shouldn't be interfering with anything in-game.

    3. As far as I know, this isn't a Texmod related issue - or at least not one I've ever heard of and can troubleshoot. Sorry!

    5. Okay, good to know.
I've already taken that mod down due to current issues with it.

  2. I have been running Texmod for awhile, but lately it has given me the 'D'OH: Stuff Happened' message and I'm unsure of how to get past that. I know running the program as Administrator can fix it with other games, but I'm not sure how to do that with the different process to get Texmod and ME3 to work in the first place. If you have any advice for this, I will thank you forever. OTL

    1. Usually this is because you need to make an exception for it in your anti-virus program. Outside of that I don't know.

  3. Okay, stupid question. Do I have to rename and open texmod.exe every time I want to use the mods with Origin? Or just the first time?

    1. Every time. That's why I use a batch file to automate it.

    2. Ah. It hadn't occurred to me to do that. Thanks for your help.

  4. Hi there, I'm getting the D'OH too, so I added the masseffect3.exe file to AVGs exceptions, but although the process name is the me3 exe file, the 'object' seems to be various .tmp files.

I hate to ask, but any advice?

    1. sorry figured it out - AVG changed how it deals with Definitions/Exceptions, so the temp file Texmod creates it what's causing it.

Apparently only thing to do it temp disable AVG, follow the above instructions until it loads ME3, then turn AVG back on.

  6. Hello,

I have a question to the automate process:

If I type Y and hit enter, it says I can now run ME3 with the texmod, but as a next step I'm supposed to run ME3 through origin to bring up the texmod. But that doesn't happen. If I run ME3 the game starts normally. What am I doing wrong?

  7. I know you´re on a break with the blog, but I wanted to ask you something: When you come back, could you do something like this for ME1 and ME2?
I´ve been trying to use texmod with ME2 and i can´t make it work (I follow the instructions to make it work with origin but i´ve only succeeded on ME3 thanks to you and your batch file)
